The Canadian Trends in Drug Purchase –

The drug purchase in 2021 was 8.3% (around $35.4 billion) higher than in 2020!

Dr. Mina Tadrous et. al. estimated pharmaceutical drug purchases across Canada using IQVIA data stratified by sector (retail and hospital) and forecasted annual spending to 2023. They conducted a time series analysis to calculate total estimated purchases and relative percentage change.

They project continuous growth in overall purchases in the Canadian market and suggest if no action is taken, the cost of drugs may impact the other public budgets, private payers, and patients. This article was published in the Canadian Journal of Health Technologies on November 30, 2022.
